In this world filled with thousands of dog breeds, most of which were made by nature, while some because of the proximity of dogs and humans, were created through crossing.

Out of the various breeds, you can find toy and companion dogs, dog-guards, dog-Shepherds, dog-hounds, and many others.

A few of these dog breeds are now regarded as dangerous. In fact, there are countries where such dogs are already banned or there were imposed restrictions regarding their ownership. Special laws regulate these prohibitions.

The main goal of such laws is to prevent any injuries or death as the result of dogs’ bites.

There is really no Federal Law in America which imposed restrictions and a ban on dangerous dog breeds across the country.  A certain law prohibits dog fighting and training such dogs purposes of fighting as well as their movement around the country.

Ownership limitations in several States include prohibition of selling of dangerous dogs, owner must be 21 years old and above, amount of liability insurance should be $100,000, the dog is given to relatives alone, and private houses must hang some warning signs.

Since 1991, Great Britain has enacted the Act on Dangerous Dogs that was finally completed in 1997. This document bans the sale, purchase, promotion, exchange, and cultivation of the following dog breeds:

  • Dogo Argentino
  • American Pitbull Terrier

These dog breeds should stay muzzled and be on a leash when in public areas. They must be registered as well, be spayed, have a chip, stamped, and have insurance. This law is applicable to the entire country with Northern Ireland being the only exception.


Dogs That Are Illegal in Australia

The continent strictly prohibits the import of these dog breeds:

  • Dogo Canario
  • Dogo Argentino
  • Pitbull Terrier
  • Fila Brasileiro or Brazilian Mastiff
  • Tosa Inu

There are no ownership restrictions of these breeds inside the country.

Dogs That Are Illegal in Canada

In the provinces of Ontario and Manitoba in Winnipeg City, ownership of Pitbulls is being banned. Winnpeg was the very first city which introduced the ban on these dog breeds in 1990 following the incident of the attacks of Pitbulls on children. Canada doesn’t have a nationwide ban on the dangerous breeds.
